This Week in the Parish

13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

This Sunday, June 28, the parish celebrates the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Masses are at 9:00 am and 11:00 am, with Coffee and Social after all weekend Masses.

On Monday, June 29, there will be a 7:00 am Mass for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. On Wednesday, July 1, the parish office will be closed for Canada Day. Mass will still be celebrated at 9:00 am.

The next parish bulletin will be published on August 1-2. Please submit items to the office before Wednesday, July 22.

Knights of Columbus Dinner

The Knights of Columbus Dinner will take place on Tuesday, June 30 at 4:00 pm in the Main Hall.

Men who would like to make a difference are also invited to learn more about the Knights by contacting Len White at 403-271-6055 or fs4878@kofc.ab.ca.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration for Canada

On Friday, July 3, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the church from 9:00 am until midnight. The parish will pray in a special way for Canada, that our country will rediscover its Catholic roots.

First Friday Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 pm, and the Litany of the Precious Blood of Our Lord will be prayed after Mass.

Parish Initiatives

Donate to St. Cecilia’s School Playground

The Foundation for St. Cecilia School has $9,000 left to reach the goal of building a new playground for the community’s children. Time is short, with only two weeks left to meet the purchasing deadline.

Multiply the Hope

As part of the Jubilee Year, the Diocese’s Multiply the Hope campaign provides matching funds to support parish renewal projects through 2027. To qualify, parishes must first meet their operating budget and TIA goals.

St. Cecilia’s parish goal is $158,425. In 2025, the parish contributed $52,290 from operational surplus.

Prayer and Vocations

Eucharistic Adoration

40 Hours Devotion for Vocations

Parishioners are encouraged to join in prayer for vocations through the 40 Hours Devotion. Our Lady of the Rockies in Canmore is listed from Friday, July 3 at 3:00 pm to Sunday, July 5 at 7:00 am. St. James Catholic Church in Calgary is listed for September 24 to 27.

Pastoral Care and Notices

Fr. Derek Away

Fr. Derek will be away on holidays from July 7 to 23. Masses will be celebrated by visiting priests. Confessions before morning Mass will depend on the priest’s availability.

On Saturday, July 11, confessions will begin at 3:30 pm rather than 3:00 pm. On Saturday, July 18, there will be no afternoon confessions.

For Anointing of the Sick while Fr. Derek is away, please call the Diocesan Call Centre at 403-231-9505.

RIP

The parish extends its deepest condolences to the families of Noreen MacDonald, who passed away on June 13, 2026, and Carol Ann Gerritsen, who passed away on June 17, 2026.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Special Notices

Parish Office Summer Hours

The parish office will be open Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 am to 12 noon. Regular office hours resume in September. This week, the office will be closed on Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1 due to Canada Day.

Birthday Cakes

On the last weekend of every month, the parish celebrates birthdays and wedding anniversaries in the parish hall with cake and coffee. To donate for cakes for an upcoming month, please contact the parish office.

Aug. 15: Solemnity of the Assumption Mass with Bishop McGrattan in Banff. Aug. 16 to 21: Daily Mass, prayers, and devotions. Aug. 22: Queenship of Mary Mass with Bishop McGrattan in Canmore.

Catholic Men’s Discernment Group

First meeting: Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 pm | St. Cecilia’s Church, Calgary

Young unmarried men discerning their vocation are invited to monthly meetings from September to April.

Meetings include reflections on discerning God’s will, silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, and the Rosary. For more information, contact Fr. Derek Remus at derek.remus@calgarydiocese.ca.

Icon Making Workshop

August 8 to 13 | St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church

The Sacred Arts Guild of Alberta invites participants to write the Mandylion icon under the guidance of Fr. Damian Higgins, Abbot of a Ukrainian Catholic monastery in Northern California.

The workshop runs from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm daily. Iconographers of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced students, are welcome. All materials will be provided.

Youth and Children: Summer Faith Opportunities

Our Lady of Victory Camp, Ignite Jr., and Vacation Bible School

Our Lady of Victory Camp: Youth are invited to summer camp in Lacombe County, near Red Deer, with dates for Grades 10 to 12, Grades 4 to 6, all ages, Grades 7 to 9, and Grades 4 to 9.

Ignite Jr. Calgary: Grades 6 to 8, August 5 to 7, from 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm at St. Mary’s University.

Vacation Bible School: Children ages 7 to 11 are invited to the FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre, August 25 to 28, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Cemetery Masses

Masses with Bishop William T. McGrattan

Bishop McGrattan will celebrate Masses for the souls of the deceased buried at Catholic cemeteries in Calgary and area. All are welcome.

Aug. 25: Mountain View Cemetery Chapel. Aug. 26: Edenbrook Cemetery Chapel. Sept. 1: Queen’s Park, outdoor. Sept. 2: St. Mary’s Cemetery, outdoor. All Masses are at 7:00 pm.
