A week-ahead look at the parish schedule from the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time through the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, including the First Thursday Mass and Holy Hour for Vocations, extended First Friday Eucharistic Adoration, and the parish Coffee and Social.

Parish Highlights
First Friday Adoration Extended to Midnight
Beginning Friday, September 4, First Friday Eucharistic Adoration will be held from 9:00 am to midnight.
The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed before the 7:00 pm Mass and exposed again afterward. Parishioners who can commit to an hour between 7:30 pm and midnight may sign up on the bulletin board in the narthex.
Weekly Friday Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration is held every Friday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. The parish is seeking additional parishioners willing to commit to a regular weekly hour.
Two people must be present in the church at all times during Adoration. Those able to make a weekly commitment are invited to contact Connie Claeys.
Knights of Columbus
Men who would like to make a difference are invited to learn more about the Knights of Columbus.

Stewardship Weekend – September 19 and 20
Parishioners are invited to consider volunteering at St. Cecilia’s. Information about the parish’s volunteer ministries is available in the pamphlet rack in the narthex and on the parish website.
A Volunteer Fair will be held in the parish hall after all weekend Masses on September 19 and 20. Parish groups wishing to have a table at the fair should contact the parish office.
Volunteer Screening Update
The next phase of parish volunteer screening is the Praesidium Volunteer Training Modules. All parish volunteers are required to complete or update their training.
In-person sessions will be offered on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 am to 12 noon and Saturday, October 17 from 10:00 am to 12 noon.
Those unable to attend either session should contact the parish office for information about completing the modules online.
Sacrament Registration 2026-2027
Registration forms for First Reconciliation and First Communion, and for Confirmation, are available from the parish office and the pamphlet rack in the narthex.
Forms and supporting documents are due by Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Completed forms may be submitted to the parish office or scanned and emailed to stcreg@stceciliacalgary.com.
First Reconciliation and First Communion are open to baptized Catholic children in Grade 2 or over. Confirmation is open to baptized Catholic students in Grade 6 or over who have received First Reconciliation and First Communion.
Celebration of Our Lady’s Birthday
The Legion of Mary invites parishioners to celebrate Our Lady’s birthday on Saturday, September 12 after the 5:00 pm Mass in St. Cecilia Parish Hall.
The celebration will include prayers, hymns, cake and fellowship. All are welcome.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic, please contact Fr. Derek at 403-252-2790.
RCIA classes begin Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 pm and will be held every Tuesday until mid-May 2027. The classes are also open to baptized Catholics who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith.
Mass on September 8 – Nativity of Mary
Mass on Tuesday, September 8, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will be celebrated at 6:30 pm rather than 9:00 am, as Fr. Derek will be attending a diocesan meeting that morning.
First Thursday Mass and Holy Hour for Vocations
Beginning Thursday, September 3, a special Mass for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s on the first Thursday of each month.
Mass begins at 7:00 pm and is followed by one hour of Eucharistic Adoration. Parishioners are invited to pray for vocations.
Catholic Men’s Discernment Group
Young unmarried men discerning their vocation are invited to participate. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month from September through April and include reflections, silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, and the Rosary.
The first meeting is Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 pm at St. Cecilia’s Church. For details, contact Fr. Derek Remus at derek.remus@calgarydiocese.ca.
Requiescant in Pace
The parish extends its deepest condolences to the families of Maria Pigao, who passed away on July 23, 2026; Faye Masse, who passed away on July 30, 2026; Ramon Polintan, who passed away on August 17, 2026; and Ronald Gelinas, who passed away on August 19, 2026.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Diocesan Highlights
Marian Week Concludes with Vocational Milestones
Marian Week concluded on August 22 with Bishop McGrattan celebrating the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary and important steps in the formation of three diocesan seminarians.
Bennett Chacko and Andre Boudreau were instituted in the ministries of lector and acolyte, while Benjamin Taylor was admitted to Candidacy for Holy Orders.
Word Conference 2026
Archbishop Paul-André Durocher will lead a diocesan conference on lifelong faith formation and discipleship. The program is structured around three movements: AWAKE, RECEIVE and GO, supported by six practical breakout sessions.
Friday runs from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Saturday runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Cemetery Masses with Bishop McGrattan
Bishop McGrattan will celebrate Mass for the souls of the deceased at Queen’s Park Cemetery on Tuesday, September 1 and at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Wednesday, September 2. Both Masses are outdoors. All are welcome.
Serving Justice, Extending Mercy: Tribunal Training Workshop
A free morning of formation for lay people, parish staff, religious and clergy who wish to better accompany parishioners through the marriage nullity process. Registration is required.
Building a Culture of Life
The Diocese is offering a 40 Days for Life leadership training evening for those who want to be equipped, encouraged and inspired to help build a culture of life in their communities.
FIAT Retreat for Single Women
Single women ages 16 to 39 who are discerning or curious about consecrated life are invited to a day of prayer, reflection, fellowship, Mass, Adoration, Reconciliation and conversation with religious sisters.
40 Hours Devotion for Vocations
Canadian Martyrs Parish, Calgary:
September 18 at 6:00 am to September 19 at 10:00 pm.
St. James Catholic Church, Calgary:
September 24 at 4:00 pm to September 27 at 8:00 am.
St. Cecilia’s Parish, Calgary:

Career and Volunteer Opportunities
Current Catholic Pastoral Centre opportunities include a full-time Bookkeeper and a casual Assistant Coordinator for Feed the Hungry.
Parish openings include an Administrative Assistant at All Saints in Lethbridge, Music Director and Sacrament Preparation Coordinator positions at St. James in Calgary, a Bookkeeper at St. Mary’s in Brooks, and an Administrative Assistant at St. Augustine/St. Joseph in Taber.
Current volunteer openings include Tribunal Auditor, Chancery Clerk and Called & Gifted discernment-process facilitator.
