A week-ahead look at the parish schedule from the Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time through the Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Fr. Derek will be at Priest Study Days from Monday through Thursday, with no parish Mass on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The scheduled Mass intentions for those days will be offered by Fr. Derek in Canmore. Coffee and Social follows all weekend Masses.

Parish Initiatives

40 Days for Life

40 Days for Life

Bishop McGrattan has encouraged parishes to participate in 40 Days for Life, a 40-day campaign from September 23 to November 1 that aims to end abortion through prayer, fasting, community outreach, and peaceful vigils in front of abortion businesses.

St. Cecilia’s will hold a vigil across from the Kensington abortion clinic on Thursday, October 22. Volunteers are needed. Please see the sign-up sheet in the narthex.

Life Chain • Sunday, October 4

Sunday, October 4 is the Annual Day of Public Witness for Children Killed by Abortion. The parish bulletin describes Life Chain as a peaceful, prayerful demonstration for the protection of preborn children. Fr. Derek will be participating.

Volunteer Screening

The next in-person training session is scheduled for October 17 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in the Parish Hall.

If you missed the last session, please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Online sessions are available only after October 15. Please email the parish office if you are planning to take the modules online. Completing the training modules is mandatory for all volunteers of the Diocese of Calgary.

Parish Life

Catholic Men’s Discernment Group

Young unmarried men seeking to discern their vocation are invited to monthly meetings from September to April. Meetings include reflections on discerning God’s will, silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, and the Rosary.

Next meeting: Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 pm at St. Cecilia’s Church. For details, contact Fr. Derek Remus at derek.remus@calgarydiocese.ca.

Catholic Women’s League

Come meet other women of the parish, grow in faith, build friendships, and take part in meaningful service to the parish and community. New members are always welcome.

Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit of the World

St. Cecilia’s will host the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit of the World, created by St. Carlo Acutis, in the parish hall from Friday, November 13 through Sunday, November 15.

Friday, November 13: 9:30 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday, November 14: 9:30 am to 8:00 pm
Sunday, November 15: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Volunteers are needed during the weekend for three-hour shifts. Training will be provided. Those interested in helping may visit the table in the narthex or contact the parish office.

Weekly Friday Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration continues each Friday. The regular parish schedule is 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

For Friday, October 9, this week’s bulletin lists Adoration from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, following the 9:00 am Mass.

Monstrance for the 40 Hours Devotion for Vocations

40 Hours Devotion for Vocations at St. Cecilia’s

St. Cecilia’s will host 40 continuous hours of Eucharistic Adoration for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life from Friday, November 13 at 9:30 am until Sunday, November 15 at 8:00 am.

The devotion will take place during the same weekend as the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit. Adorers will be needed throughout the 40 Hours, especially during the nighttime hours. A sign-up sheet will be placed in the narthex in October.

Fr. Derek at Priest Study Days

From Monday, October 5 through Thursday, October 8, Fr. Derek will be in Canmore for Priest Study Days. There will be no Mass in the parish on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Fr. Derek will offer Mass in Canmore for the intentions scheduled for those days.

If someone is sick or dying and needs a priest while Fr. Derek is away, please call the Diocese of Calgary Call Centre at 403-231-9505.

Contact Your MP

Bill C-218, which would prevent MAID where a mental disorder is the sole underlying medical condition, is scheduled for its second-reading vote in the House of Commons on Wednesday, October 7. Parishioners are encouraged to contact their Member of Parliament and to pray the Rosary for the bill.

October 17 to 23 • Catholic Education Sunday: October 17 and 18

This year’s theme, The Power of the Holy Spirit, is inspired by Romans 15:13. Catholic Education Sunday will include a second collection supporting Catholic education across the Diocese, including Catholic public schools, St. Mary’s University, and St. Joseph Seminary.

For 2026, the Diocese will match up to $250,000 from the Catholic Education Sunday collection distributed among the five Catholic school districts.

Taco & Wine with Mission Mexico

Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 pm • St. Anthony’s Parish Hall, Calgary

Pastoral Care Ministry Training

The Diocese invites those called to accompany the sick, elderly, dying, homebound, and grieving. The course develops practical visiting skills, a ministry of presence, and compassionate accompaniment.

Ascension Parish: Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Register by Oct. 26.
St. Bonaventure Parish: Nov. 7 and 14, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Register by Nov. 2.
Cost: $50, including materials and lunch.

Transitions is an 18-week, peer-led, God-centred support group for people working through the pain of separation and divorce. It is offered in a confidential, safe, and respectful environment of community and belonging.

Fr. Jerome Lavigne leads an evening exploring the mystery of the Incarnation through the witness of the Shroud of Turin. The retreat concludes with Eucharistic Adoration and is open to all.


Brother Francis: Rebuild My Church
October 30, 31 and November 1 • Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Calgary

Parishioners and children bring the story of St. Francis of Assisi to the stage. Tickets are $20 for ages 13+, $5 for ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under.
