Parish Initiatives
40 Days for Life
Bishop McGrattan has encouraged parishes to participate in 40 Days for Life, a 40-day campaign from September 23 to November 1 that aims to end abortion through prayer, fasting, community outreach, and peaceful vigils in front of abortion businesses.
St. Cecilia’s will hold a vigil across from the Kensington abortion clinic on Thursday, September 24 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and Thursday, October 22 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Please see the sign-up sheet in the narthex.
Volunteer Screening
The next in-person training session is scheduled for October 17 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in the Parish Hall.
If you missed the last session, please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Completing the training modules is mandatory for all volunteers of the Diocese of Calgary.
Multiply the Hope
As part of the Jubilee Year, the Diocese’s Multiply the Hope campaign provides matching funds to support parish renewal projects through 2027. To qualify, parishes must first meet their operating budget and TIA goals.
St. Cecilia’s parish goal is $158,425. In 2025, the parish contributed $52,290 from its operational surplus. Another $100,000 needs to be raised before the end of 2027.
Parish Life
Catholic Men’s Discernment Group
Young unmarried men seeking to discern their vocation are invited to monthly meetings from September to April. Meetings include reflections on discerning God’s will, silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, and the Rosary.

RCIA classes begin Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 pm and will be held every Tuesday until mid-May 2027. The classes are also open to baptized Catholics who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith.
Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit of the World
St. Cecilia’s will host the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit of the World, created by St. Carlo Acutis, in the parish hall from Friday, November 13 through Sunday, November 15.
Friday, November 13: 9:30 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday, November 14: 9:30 am to 8:00 pm
Sunday, November 15: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Volunteers are needed during the weekend for three-hour shifts. Advance training will be provided. Those interested in helping may visit the table in the narthex or contact the parish office.
Prayer and Vocations
Weekly Friday Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration is held every Friday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. On First Fridays, Adoration continues until midnight.
The parish is looking for additional parishioners willing to commit to a regular weekly hour of Adoration. Two people must be present in the church at all times during Adoration.

40 Hours Devotion for Vocations at St. Cecilia’s
St. Cecilia’s will host 40 continuous hours of Eucharistic Adoration for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life from Friday, November 13 at 9:30 am until Sunday, November 15 at 8:00 am.
The devotion will take place during the same weekend as the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit. Adorers will be needed throughout the 40 Hours, especially during the nighttime hours. A sign-up sheet will be placed in the narthex in October.
Confessions will also be available at various times during the devotion. Details will be announced closer to the date.

Scam Alert
The parish office has been informed that some parishioners have received scam emails pretending to be from other parishioners. The emails contain invitations to special events and say “A Very Merry Evening.” At the top of the email is the company name “Paperless Pro.”
The bulletin warns that opening these emails may leave banking information vulnerable to being hacked. It also notes that the messages are sent from the actual email addresses of the parishioners being impersonated.

In Memoriam: Fr. John Schuster
The Diocese asks the faithful to pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. John Schuster, who died peacefully on September 16, 2026, at the age of 86.
Both the Vigil and Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, with a funeral reception at St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
Word Conference 2026
The Diocese’s major fall conference focuses on lifelong faith formation and discipleship. Archbishop Paul-André Durocher will lead three keynotes, with six practical breakout sessions covering formation from childhood through adulthood, special pastoral circumstances, and the renewed RCIA.
Friday runs from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Saturday runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The conference is open to clergy, catechists, Catholic educators, RCIA teams, parish leaders, ministry teams, and those called to serve in the ministry of the Word.
Transitions
Transitions is an 18-week, peer-led, God-centred support group for people working through the pain of separation and divorce. The program is offered in a confidential, safe and respectful environment of community and belonging.
There is no fee to register, and space is limited.

The Evangelizing Mission of the Church in Canada
The Episcopal Commission for Doctrine of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has released a new reflection inviting Catholics to rediscover and share the Good News in Canadian society.
World Day of Migrants and Refugees Mass
Gather in prayer and solidarity with migrants and refugees, giving thanks for the gifts and contributions they bring to our parishes and communities.
Mass will be followed by a reception. All are welcome.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Bishop William T. McGrattan will preside at a Eucharistic Celebration on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The faithful are invited to gather in prayer for healing and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
The Rosary: In Concert
St. Francis Xavier Chaplaincy’s St. Hildegard Singers present The Feast of the Rosary in Concert, an evening of sacred music at the Cathedral.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
Like a Mighty River Conference
The Calgary Catholic Charismatic Renewal Society invites the faithful to three days of prayer, worship, teaching, and renewal in the Holy Spirit.

The Diocese continues its 40 Hours Devotion for Vocations, inviting the faithful to sustained Eucharistic Adoration for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
